Laura Aylor's Bear River is a simple, seamless, 3/4-sleeved pullover knit from the top down. The construction
method is adapted from Barbara Walker’s top-down simultaneous set-in sleeves
in Knitting from the Top.
The back shoulders are knit separately and shaped with short rows. They are
joined by casting on the center back stitches. Each front shoulder is picked
up from the back shoulder cast-on and shaped with short rows. The tops of
the sleeves are picked up along the sides and then the sleeve caps are knit
along with the body. Garter edges and tops of shoulders are knit in a
contrasting color. Split hems keep the fit relaxed. Sample shown is being
worn with about an inch of positive ease.
