The Time for Coffee Shawl
by Zsuzsa Kiss, of Soft Rainbow Designs, is a playfully striped shawl and
the ideal project for the long striping repeats of Kauni Effektgarn
8/2.
But its easily adjustable size also makes it a great stash busting project.
Try out some of these color combinations:
- use only one yarn - semisolid, or something with long
color change
- use a solid with a color changing - on the edge use
the color changing or the semisolid.
- use two semisolids
- or be wild: use two color changing yarns from the
same colorway or even from different ones!
What you choose will define the effect you get from fun to
elegant. The shawl is crescent shaped, with a
perpendicularly attached edging, and needs hardly any finishing.
The body is quick and easy to knit and although the edging needs patience
and it takes a lot of time, it is a really interesting knit.
Difficulty:
Advanced.
Yarn used for sample:
MC: Alize Cashmira Fine (450m/100g, 100% wool), color code: 01,
CC: Garnstudio Drops Delight (175m/50g, 75% wool, 25%
polyamid), color code: 10
Yarn requirements:
656-766 yards (600-700m)
If you knit with two colors, 70% of the whole amount is
the color you knit the border, and 30% from the other color. You can adjust
the pattern. For the border you will need ca 55% of the yarn from that color
you knit the border. It makes sense sometimes to check the remaining yarn.
Needles:
US 2.5 (3mm) circular needle, min. 100 cm long (or any size that suits your
chosen yarn)
Notions:
cable needle, tapestry needle, blocking pins.
Gauge:
not crucial but will effect the finished size and needed amount of yarn.
