Fiber Dreams' Cluster cowl beautifully
coordinates with her Flourette fingerless mitts! The
cluster stitch is often used in Estonian knitting to add texture to delicate
lace designs. Here it’s used instead with bulky yarn, a simple Estonian
border, and an i-cord bind off making the warm and cozy Cluster
cowl. Knit in the round with a shift at the end of most rows ensures there’s
no visible seam, at the same time making the pattern easier to memorize.
A floret is a small flower, or one of
the small flowers in a cluster. Fiber Dreams prefers the old English
spelling, “flourette,” which is a diminutive of the word flur, meaning
flower. The Flourette
mitts are worked in the round. They start with a delicately waving edge that
moves into a field of flower clusters. Both hand and thumb end with an
i-cord bind off.
