Chrissy Gardiner of Gardiner Yarn Works released the Hurricane Sock pattern right after the devastating hurricanes Ike and Gustav slammed the Gulf Coast of the US in the fall of 2008. Chrissy donated a portion of the proceeds from this pattern to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund which helps victims of hurricanes and other natural disasters around the globe. This pattern has already raised several hundred dollars for the fund and will continue to do so until it is retired.
