The birch is one of the deciduous trees that can survive in
harsh northern climates. After birches have shed their leaves in the fall, they
can look like ghost trees, ethereal and other-worldly.
Ilga Leja's Among the Birches is an over-sized wrap shaped like
a ruana, but can also be buttoned along the sides and worn as a vest. The changing colors of the piece combine the colors of birch trees in fall with a background of earth and stone.
