Sivia Harding shares the inspiration for her Levana
shawl..."I have been in love with the center-out structure of knitting for a
long time. It gives me great pleasure to merge the center-start with the
crescent form. In addition, this design features other interesting structural
and textural details, such as garter stitch as a counterpoint to beaded lace,
one of my favorite combinations."
Levana begins with a center-start square
panel, from which wings emerge at right and left. The top and bottom of the
center square, along with the tops of the side panels, are finished with a tiny,
sweet beaded picot edging. On the bottom edges of the side panels, framing the
beaded lace section, is a small, openwork lace pattern that I know you will love
because of its easy, intuitive nature; every time you encounter this edge,
whether it is on a right side or a wrong side row, it is always worked in the
same way: k2, yo, k2tog.
