Sivia Harding's Millefiore
is a marvelously decorative yet versatile beaded trio (a cowl, wimple and
wristlets) and like the millefiore, or thousand-flowered beads, that originated
in Italy. Sivia shares her design inspiration..."Millefiore beads look
very mandala-like, and I thought it a very appropriate name for a beautifully
beaded garment that is knit entirely in the round."
Pattern is written and charted. Beads are added by two methods:
pre-stringing and the crochet hook add-as-you-go technique. In each piece,
the lace pattern begins at the bottom with a scallop, then becomes a charming
textured lace pattern that is lightly shaped as it goes up toward the top.
Wimple is long enough to gently cover the head. Wristlets can be worn
either way: scallops extending over the hand, or toward the elbow. 
Yarn: Fingering
weight yarn, 400 yards. Samples shown in Black Trillium Trinity Sock (80%
merino, 10% cashmere, 10% nylon, 370 yds/100 g), 1 skein Serial Knitter Red; and
Hazel Knits Sock (100% Superwash Merino, 400 yds/100 g), 1 skein Sassafras. One
100-gram skein should be enough for a wimple and a pair of wristlets, depending
on your gauge and knitting style

Gauge: 23.5 sts and 32 Rounds = 4"/10 cm in lace pattern, measured after
blocking
Tighter gauge will result in a smaller circumference; looser gauge will result
in a larger circumference.
Needles & Notions: Wristlet: Size 4 US (3.5mm), choice of double
pointed needles, 2 circulars, or one long circular
Cowl and Wimple: Size 4 US (3.5mm) circulars, 16"/40 cm long
Size 6/0 round or 4 mm magatama seed beads, 60 (180, 222) for pair of wristlets
(cowl, wimple)
Size 13 or 14 US (.6 or .75mm) crochet hook
Dental floss threader or big eye beading needle
Stitch markers
